History
The North Penn School District Educational Foundation was launched in 1988 under the leadership of then superintendent Dr. Frances Rhodes. She, along with Ken Weir, director of school/community services worked to create a partnership with businesses and community leaders which would be a positive and exciting adventure and a model for other districts.
The board of school directors approved the concept of a Foundation and a separate board was created with leaders from local industry, community members and parents. The Foundation established itself as a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization.
During the first year, 11 grants were awarded totaling $6,352. Today, 1,003 total grants have been given out to the amount of $888,642.
The board strives each year to have more funding for grants than the previous year. Most members are area residents and are pleased to give their time and talent to this successful and worthwhile effort. Thousands of North Penn students have benefited from the work of the North Penn Educational Foundation. Teachers see this as a positive reinforcement of their creativity and their willingness to go the extra mile.
